Audi Oman Hosts First Quattro Cup Golf Tournament in Oman

Golfers Hail Event Huge Success as 100 Players Battled It Out for Right to Represent Oman in World Final in South Africa

Audi Oman has successfully held the first ever quattro Cup in Oman – attracting 100 golfers to participate in an event that is now one of the biggest amateur golfing events around the world.

After a thrilling day of competitive action at the Muscat Hills Golf and Country Club, Muscat-based players Henry Ondo Obama and Christian Carton were the winning team and will now go on to represent Oman in the World Final of the quattro Cup that will be staged in South Africa in November.

Billed as the largest amateur tournament series worldwide, the quattro Cup has attracted over one million golfers in the past 21 years and last year alone there were 800 tournaments organised by Audi dealers in 52 countries attracting 90,000 players.

Golfing friends Henry Ondo Obama and Christian Carton said they were surprised but delighted to have won the prestigious title and have the opportunity to represent the nation’s amateur golfers in the World Final later this year.

Henry, who has lived and worked in Oman since 2008 and hails from Gabon in central Africa, plays off a 12 handicap and said: “I did not expect that we would do so well but this was one of those once in a lifetime days for a golfer when everything went right for us.

“Audi has organised one of the best tournaments I have ever taken part in and this was a real top notch tournament from start to finish and will be very good event to help the continued development of golf in Oman.”

Christian Carton, who is from France and like Henry works in the oil industry in Oman, plays off a 22 handicap and has been in the Sultanate for four years, taking up golf back in 2003.

He said: “This was a very nice tournament and very well organised by Audi and by Muscat Hills and I am very, very happy that Henry and I played so well and won the tournament. I knew if we played well we would have a chance but there were some very good golfers in the tournament so it was a big surprise for both of us.”

Abdel Karim Awwad, National Sales and Marketing Manager for Audi Oman, congratulated Henry and Christian on their success against such a competitive field. “It was a tremendous achievement by Christian and Henry to win against such a highly competitive field. All of the participants told us it was one of the best organised and most exciting tournaments they have been able to play in Oman and we are looking forward to this becoming a major fixture on the annual golfing calendar in Oman.

“The Audi quattro Cup has attracted the very best amateur golf teams from around the world for over 20 years and it is was exciting to be able to introduce this exceptional event to the Sultanate. Audi Oman would like to thank Muscat Hills Golf & Country Club and the Oman Golf Association for their tremendous support in making this happen and ensuring we enjoyed such an outstanding day of tournament team golf.“
