Audi Oman has launched the Quattro Cup Golf Tournament in the Sultanate for the first time for the country’s best amateur golfers to participate at the Muscat Hills Golf & Country Club on Friday 8th March.
The winning team will have the right to compete in the World Final that will be held in South Africa in November having participated in what is the largest amateur tournament series worldwide.
Last year over 90,000 golfers participated in the Audi Quattro Cup with nearly 800 tournaments organised by Audi dealers in 52 countries. Oman is now proud to add its name to this truly global event that has attracted over one million golfers in the last 21 years.
The launch event was held at the host venue of Muscat Hills Golf & Country Club, the first grass golf course facility in Oman, and attended by senior Audi officials, representatives from the Omani Ministry of Sport, Oman Golf Committee and golf club officers.
These included Abdel Karim Awwad, National Sales and Marketing Manager for Audi Oman, Mr. Barakat Salim Al Sharji representing the Ministry of Sport and Oman Golf Committee and Ray Stopforth, Director of Golf, Muscat Hills Golf & Country Club
Abdel Karim Awwad said: “We are very proud to be launching this hugely successful global event in Oman for the very first time. The Audi Quattro Cup has attracted the very best amateur golf teams from around the world for over 20 years and it is very exciting to be able to introduce this exceptional event to the Sultanate.
“I would like to thank Muscat Hills Golf & Country Club and the Oman Golf Association for their tremendous support in making this happen and we are looking forward to an outstanding day of tournament team golf on 8th March.”
The event will be one of the biggest international golfing challenges ever staged in Oman as the nation becomes a growing centre for golfing excellence with Muscat Hills as the grass course pioneer.
Mr. Barakat Salim Al Sharji added: “Both the Ministry of Sport and Oman Golf Committee are keen to attract international events to our golf courses in Oman and the Audi Quattro Cup has become famous around the world for the size and scale of its ambition and encouragement to golfing excellence among amateur teams every year. We are delighted to be working with Audi Oman to make this event a success and ensure we find the best team to represent the nation in South Africa in November.”
Roy Stopforth from Muscat Hills explained that the 18-hole championship course would pose a real challenge to the teams participating and would encourage a superb day of golf.
“Muscat Hills Golf & Country Club is enormously proud to be the very first host of the Audi Quattro Cup in Oman joining with some of the world’s leading courses in having hosted this legendary event over the past 21 years. We would like to thank Audi Oman for choosing us as their venue and we look forward to a very close working relationship with them in the future,” said Mr. Stopforth.
Audi's involvement in supporting sporting events is aimed at supporting people who are pursuing their vision, in areas that provide fresh impetus. In the same way that Audi itself is one of the leading manufacturers of cars, Audi sports sponsorship is an integral part of this approach.
The company regards itself as a pacesetter of advanced technology which is why Audi has also adopted a new approach to sponsorship. Its concepts adopt a long-term horizon and it places particular emphasis on working with the stars of tomorrow. The objective is to help excellence come to the fore, with some carefully targeted assistance.
