GAC signs Agreement with Ministry of Manpower to Train & Employ 37 Nationals

General Automotive Company (GAC), the official distributors of Mitsubishi in Oman, places staff learning and development initiatives at the core of its human resources program, a policy which is in line with the national objective of offering more employment opportunities for young Omanis, and to make a meaningful contribution towards the overall economic growth of the Country. In line with this policy, General Automotive Company recently signed an agreement with the Ministry of Manpower to train 37 young Omanis and recruit them throughout the company’s branch network.
The agreement was signed at the Ministry of Manpower in the presence of HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser Al Bakri, the Minister of Manpower. Representing GAC at the event were Mark Tomlinson, the Group General Manager of The Zubair Automotive Group; Rashid Al Hooti, the Head of Corporate Relations at Zubair Automotive Group, and Salam Al Kindi, the National HR Manager of GAC.

Commenting on the recently signed agreement, Mark Tomlinson, said, “As an automotive business operating in Oman, we are very proud to have one of the highest Omanisation rates within the sector. The employment of Omani Nationals has always been a core aspect of our operational strategy and each and every one of our Omani employees have proved themselves to be extremely efficient and capable. Furthermore, we strive to offer both, new recruits and existing staff with comprehensive training workshops and skill development programs in order to facilitate their growth within the organization as well as to add to the availability of skilled manpower in the Omani automobile industry.”

In accordance with the agreement GAC has already selected 37 Omanis from the Saham Vocational Institute to undergo ten months of comprehensive training at GAC, with the Ministry covering all training expenses. The training will encompass detailed programs for every job allocation including auto parts, sales, auto technicians, auto electrician and auto body repair. In addition, GAC will also pay each trainee a monthly allowance for the duration of the training, after which each of them will be employed as full-time staff throughout the company’s branch network. In addition, each of these employees will also benefit from the regular training programs that GAC regularly conducts for its staff; helping them further develop their skills and knowledge of the automotive sector.
