Grass Roots Oman Under 13 Team Triumphant At Oman Edition of Volkswagen Junior Masters 2013

Globally acclaimed tournament held in Muscat for the first time by Wattayah Motors, nurturing the nation’s love for football

Bringing Oman’s most loved sport a step closer to customers, Wattayah Motors, the official dealers for Volkswagen in the Sultanate are proud to announce the winners of the Oman arm of Volkswagen Junior Masters 2013 football tournament.

The Volkswagen Junior Masters is a Volkswagen Group initiative where local dealers sponsor and support the passion for football for boys between the ages of 10 and 12 years. The objective of the Junior Masters Tournament is to promote soccer development at a grassroots level and endorse the game nationally.

Hemant Bhat, Naji Zeitouni of Volkswagen Oman said “The Volkswagen Junior Masters tournament, now it is fourth year in the Middle East, aims to bring together talented players under the age of 13 who are passionate about football. The Volkswagen Junior Masters is one of the largest youth football tournaments organised worldwide and we are proud to bring to the Sultanate this year. On behalf of Wattayah Motors, we convey our heartfelt congratulations to Grass Roots Oman under-13 team who have outperformed all their competition to secure the title.”

The tournaments took place on a full size pitch with 11 players a side at Muscat Club at Wadi Kabir with the participation of 8 teams:- Arsenal U13 , Palastine, Muscat Untied, Al Jazzeria, Professional, Grass Roots Oman, ABQIS and RGOTC. Each match lasted 20 minutes, 10 minutes halves with 2 minutes for half time break. The general match and tournament rules followed the international regulations stipulated by FIFA.

The Junior Masters is a global initiative by Volkswagen and as the 'people's car', Volkswagen encourages and supports youngsters interested in soccer which is popularly dubbed a ‘people’s sport’ which harnesses team spirit. The championships began in the Middle East in 2010 with 16 teams from Abu Dhabi and Dubai participating. Since this date the competition has grown to include more markets throughout the region.
