Grassroots Oman Crowned Champions of 2013 Volkswagen Junior Masters Middle East

 • Grassroots Oman team wins once in a lifetime chance to train with VFL Wolfsburg in Germany

• 640 aspiring soccer stars took part in fourth Junior Masters 2013 Middle East tournament 
 
98 matches, 640 aspiring young footballers from four countries around the Middle East; but there could be only one champion: "Grassroots Oman" football team has been crowned regional winner of the Volkswagen 2013 Junior Masters Middle East Championship. The hopeful soccer stars have won the opportunity to visit the famed Wolfsburg, Autostadt in Germany and play a friendly football match against their German counterparts from “VFL Wolfsburg”.
 
The hotly contested playoffs of the largest international youth football tournament initiated by a company, took place on Saturday, 20th April, at the Jebel Ali International Shooting Club and Centre of Excellence, where qualified teams from Oman, Kuwait, Qatar and United Arab Emirates, played for the championship title and the opportunity to travel to Germany.
 
Commenting on this year’s championship, Naji Zeitouni, Marketing & Product Manager, Volkswagen Middle East said: “Football is an emotional game that brings people together from every nationality, religion and culture and in Oman it is a sport that is accompanied with much passion. It is a matter of real pride for us at Wattayah Motors to announce "Grassroots Oman" as champions of the Volkswagen Junior Masters 2013 Middle East tournament,”
 
He also added, “Volkswagen is an on-going supporter of youth football initiatives both in the Middle East and internationally and the Junior Masters Middle East has gained momentum in its fourth year. There has been an exceptional level of skill and sportsmanship displayed throughout the qualifying matches this year and we are delighted to be able to give "Grassroots Oman" the opportunity to travel to Germany.”
 
Qualifying sides were first nominated via a written submission, with those making it through step one of the application process, required to submit a video entry of their team displaying their football skills on the pitch.
 
At each of the regional qualifiers, eight teams participated in a one day tournament before the winners and runner up from each qualifier were invited to the regional finals in Dubai.
 
The tournaments took place on a full size pitch with 11 players a side and five rolling substitutes. Each match lasted 20 minutes, 10 minute halves with a two minute half-time break. The general match and tournament rules followed the international regulations stipulated by FIFA.
 
This year’s participating teams included, Dubai College, Dubai Colts; Evolution Soccer (Qatar), Al Gharafa (Qatar): Grassroots Oman (Oman), Al Jazeera (Oman); Kuwait Club (Kuwait), AC Milan (Kuwait); Goal United (Abu Dhabi), AD Thistle (Abu Dhabi).
 
Sponsors for the regional Volkswagen 2013 Junior Masters Championship include;  Nivea, Haribo and Lufthansa German Airlines.

The event began in Germany over a decade ago, as part of Volkswagen’s commitment to support youth and sports around the world. The tournament is aimed at boys under the age of 13 and has grown to include 4,700 youth players, 333 teams, and 245 dealers in its home country alone. Today, the tournament takes place in 23 countries worldwide.
