Inaugural National Finance & Volvo Trucks & Buses Open Tournament Held at Ghala Valley Golf Club

Marking the beginning of an all new golfing championship in the Sultanate, the inaugural National Finance and Volvo Trucks & Buses Open Tournament was held on November 01 at the Ghala Valley Golf Club. Organised by the Club on behalf of National Finance - one of the leading financial companies in Oman in partnership with International Heavy Equipment (IHE), official dealers of Volvo Trucks & Buses, the competition contributed meaningfully to raise the profile of golf in the Sultanate, while promoting the sport among the youth.

Competition entry was open for all players with verifiable handicaps, and a strokeplay format was followed. Furthermore, to encourage the sport among the youth, junior golfers with a handicap were allowed to enter the tournament at no cost. After 18 holes of stunning golf, Stojanovski was declared winner in a game that ended with thrills, drama and excitement that are synonymous with all golfing events.

Mr. Ram Mohan, General Manager of IHE, official dealers of Volvo Trucks & Buses in the Sultanate said, “With the rapid development in infrastructure available to all sports fans, it has been a unique experience to be able to support this fast growing sport. The response received in the inaugural edition has been very encouraging and promises well for future collaborative events and partnerships. The event was an undoubted success for the players, organizers and others who were involved in this event.”

An 18-hole round of two-over-par (74) allowed Stojanovski to edge out Omani National player Azaan Al Rumhy on a count-back who also finished with a 74. Despite incurring a 2 stroke penalty on the first hole for arriving late to the tee, Stojanovski closed out the round with a three-under-par (33) back nine to claim the title.

In partnership with IHE and Ghala Valley, we look forward to extending our support to this global sport in the near future.”

Within a relatively short period of time, Oman has become a premier golfing destination. Golf enthusiasts now have easier access to the game than ever before, which shows a promising future for this highly technical and competitive game. With the investments made in golf course development and associated infrastructure, there has been a real upsurge in participation in the sport, and with that, the identification of emerging talent in this sport, with Oman raising its profile significantly on the regional golfing map.

Mubarak Hill, General Manager of Ghala Valley Golf Club commented, “Golfing events such as the National Finance and Volvo Trucks & Buses Open Tournament not only increases the popularity of the game in Oman and abroad, but also helps to nurture new talent among the youth – who are the future of the sport. It was an honour to be associated with such prestigious companies in their first edition tournament. The quality of play was indeed inspiring.”

After the tournament, all participants and delegates gathered for the awards presentation at the beautiful setting of the Ghala Valley Golf Club, which was followed by a gala dinner to celebrate the success of the event.
