  • Khalid Soomar and Amer Al Zadjali win the final round of Oman Rally Championship 2012
  • GAC holds ceremony to award the top three Mitsubishi drivers of the final round

General Automotive Company, the sole distributor of Mitsubishi vehicles in Oman, held an award ceremony presenting the Mitsubishi-Rally Cup 2012 winners of the fifth and final stage of the Oman Rally Championship 2012 at the recently held Motor Show.

Mark Tomlinson said: “This year the championship has proven to be an extremely competitive one and it was our pleasure to back the Mitsubishi drivers who compete in and have dominated the Championship. I would also like to congratulate Khalid Soomar and Amer Al Zadjali on their victory in the final stage of the championship and wish them the best of luck next year as well.”
Taking second and third place amongst the Mitsubishi teams were the pairs of Khalid Al Minji and his co-driver Saif Al Aisri and Hamoud Al Toqi along with his co-driver Mohammed Al Wardi. Not only were they the top Mitsubishi teams in the race they even placed second and fourth overall in the final round of the Championship; further reinforcing the strength and dominance of the Mitsubishi brand in the sport. They were also presented with certificates and prizes at the award ceremony.
Commenting on his victory in the final round, Khalid Soomar said, “It was not easy to manage the race, if you ease off you’ll lose ground; overshoots run risk of damage and the route was quite challenging. Nothing can be taken for granted until the finish lane. But our Mitsubishi Evo never let us down throughout the race. Its performance, durability and stability is second to none.” He added, “I would also like to thank General Automotive Company for their continued support to the teams and the sport.”
The Rally Cup, launched by General Automotive Company in March, provided prizes for the leading Mitsubishi Evo drivers in each race this year with prizes including a trophy and credits towards buying approved parts from the company. Additionally, all Mitsubishi rally drivers taking part in the Championship benefitted from special deals enabling them to secure approved parts from the company at special prices.
“Rally driving has a proud tradition here in Oman and the Mitsubishi Evo in particular has proved to be a truly world class car for rallying. It has dominated the championship throughout the year with almost all of winning teams running Mitsubishis. With its current track record, it will no doubt prove to be the dominating force in the championship next year as well,” added Mark.

The latest version of the Evo – the Evolution X – along with the Lancer EX Rally is available at Mitsubishi showrooms across the Sultanate and General Automotive Company is inviting its customers to visit their local showroom to find out more about these amazing vehicles.
