Volkswagen Announces 2016 Edition of Junior Masters Oman U13 Football Tournament

Regional playoffs to be held across Oman for the first time.

Volkswagen, represented in Oman by Wattayah Motors, has announced the launch of the 2016 chapter of the Volkswagen Junior Masters Oman U-13 Football Tournament, which will begin in January. To be held across the Sultanate this year, the winner and runner-up team will represent Oman in the Volkswagen Junior Masters Middle East Tournament set to take place in Dubai on March 4 and 5.

In 2016, taking into consideration the enthusiasm that Oman has for football, Volkswagen Oman have added more dimension to the regional playoffs. This year’s event will kick-off with the first regional qualifier in Sohar on January 09, 2016 followed by the other regions later in the month.

Commenting on the tournament, Andrew Squires, the General Manager of Wattayah Motors said, “Every year, the Volkswagen Junior Masters provides under-13 club football teams from across the country the opportunity to demonstrate their passion and talents on a national, and subsequently regional level. Witnessing the overwhelming response we receive each year, we decided to take the national championships a notch higher by expanding the geographical reach – allowing more gifted young footballers across Oman to be a part of what is one of the biggest and most popular youth football tournaments in the world.”

He also added, “We understand that it is a unique honour for a local team to represent Oman in the regional finals, to be hosted in Dubai, competing alongside ten of the best teams from around the region; and maybe even go ahead to be a part of the Junior Masters Cup to be held in Clairefontaine, France.”

This international youth tournament, is aimed at all players under the age of 13 who will first compete in regional qualifiers. The format of these qualifiers vary from country to country. In Oman the tournament will consist regional tournaments. The qualifying teams from each of the regional tournaments will enter into the finals to be held in Muscat on February 13, 2016. All matches will follow FIFA rules recognised by the Oman Football Association together with certain conditions of play as set out by the association to accommodate for the fast-paced nature of the tournament.

The winners and runner-up of the Oman Regional Qualifiers will join those from Kuwait, Qatar, Dubai and Abu Dhabi in the Volkswagen Junior Masters Middle East 2016 Tournament, which will be held in Dubai, UAE on March 4 and 5, 2016. The winner of the finals will then be crowned Volkswagen Junior Masters Middle East Champions. The winners of the Middle East finals will then head to Paris in May 2016 to represent the region at the Volkswagen World Junior Masters.

“Instead of a single qualifying match in Oman, we are excited to provide a multitude of opportunities for talented footballers under the age of 13 from across the country. We encourage all local clubs and individual teams to take note of the registration procedure and sign up for this exclusive break as soon as possible to reserve your place in the tournament,” concluded Andrew Squires.
