Even the most technologically advanced cars and trucks cannot protect its occupants against irresponsible driving behaviour such as driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs or driving without a seat belt. Likewise can you cannot protect a child who is not strapped in a recommended child safety seat.

Before you begin to drive, please ensure:

  • You are strapped in.
  • Your mobile phone is connected to a hands free device. Better still, do not call or take a call whilst driving.
  • Ensure the rest of the passengers with you are strapped in as well including the rear seat passengers.
  • If you have a child on board, please ensure the child is properly strapped in a recommended child seat. It is extremely important to read the manufacturer's directions thoroughly before trying to install the child seat. Learn the proper way to install the child seat and correct positioning of your child in the seat. Safety tests show that the risk of injury or death for a child in a motor vehicle crash is reduced by 71 percent when the child is properly restrained in a child safety seat.

Once you are on the road:

  • Please ensure you stick to speed limits.
  • Once again, answer a phone only if you have to through a hands free device.

Final Note:
Safety belts are always worn; the car does not move until everyone's safety belts are fastened properly. Adults in the car need to be role models. By fastening your safety belt immediately when getting in the car, you set a good example for your child.
